Our community first responders are volunteers who are trained by the Scottish Ambulance Service to attend certain types of emergency calls in the area where they live or work.
Their aim is to reach a potential life-threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before the ambulance crew arrives. We provide an early intervention in situations such as cardiac arrest, heart attacks, breathing difficulties and strokes.
A Community First Responder is trained to provide an initial assessment of a patient's condition and where appropriate, use their emergency skills and knowledge to initiate care and treatment.
